Paul Howell, Creative Director
Paul learned everything he knows about graphic design in the Navy. Not really, but it's fun to point out that he printed his first design piece when he was in high school, working as an intern in the design studio of the U.S. Navy's Department of Morale, Welfare and Recreation on Roosevelt Roads Naval Station in Puerto Rico. He's come a long way since then. Graduating Cum Laude on scholarship from Arizona State University's graphic design program, Paul landed a job right away in one of the Valley's most respected firms, where he learned the business and worked his way up to associate creative director. While there, he served on the Executive Board of Directors of the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) Phoenix Chapter.
Paul returned to ASU as an adjunct faculty member where he taught senior studio design classes while working full-time as senior art director at AlpernLehman, a Top 20 advertising and design agency in Scottsdale specializing in healthcare and pharmaceutical marketing. When he took over as creative director at AlpernLehman, he stopped teaching for a while so he could focus on managing the agency's creative department and generating revenue for his its clients. He returned to the ASU faculty in 2002-2003 to develop and teach a graphic design history lecture class.
Paul's creative work and direction has resulted in a steady stream of sales success for his clients, and added to a growing list of some 65 advertising and design awards, including the One Show, several Judge's Choice, Gold and Silver Addy's, various PRISMA Awards, and a Best of Show in the 2002 Medical Marketing Association Awards competition. His work has been recognized and published in leading national and international creative publications including How Magazine, Print Magazine, Retail Ad World, American Corporate Identity 12, American Corporate Identity17, The AIGA Guide to Education and The One Show Vol. 24.
Paul has created work for local, national and international clients including Smith and Wesson, Breitfeld & Schliekert GMBH, BriotWeco Canada, Walkers Global, Avnet Electronics Marketing, Arizona State University, USC University Hospital, NDC Health Informatics, Banner Health Systems, Catholic Healthcare West, FHP Healthcare, ScriptSave, The Latz Negotiation Institute, Fat Tuesdays Restaurants, RA Sushi / Benihana, The Heard Museum, The Phoenix Art Museum and The Phoenix Symphony to name but a few.
